System Notes — POWER TRAIN
The power train group covers the components between the engine and the ground: torque converter, transmission, driveshaft, differential, final drives and the clutches and seals inside them. It multiplies engine torque into the pulling force the machine needs. Heat and contamination cause most failures — oil that has broken down varnishes the clutch packs, a leaking final drive seal lets grit into the planetary set, and a worn driveshaft joint shows up first as a vibration at a particular speed. Parts are replaced when shift quality degrades, when a vibration appears at one speed band, or when oil analysis shows the wrong metal.
System Notes — AIR INLET AND EXHAUST SYSTEM
The air inlet and exhaust system covers the air cleaner housing and elements, intake piping, turbocharger, aftercooler, exhaust manifold, turbo mounting hardware and gaskets. It delivers clean, dense air and carries hot gas away. On this group, the two dominant failures are dust ingress and heat cycling: a leaking intake joint lets unfiltered air straight into the cylinders and dusts the rings in a few hundred hours, while exhaust manifold and turbo flange gaskets crack from repeated heat cycles and start whistling or sooting. Parts are replaced when boost drops, the intake tract shows dust trails past the filter, or a soot streak appears at a joint.
