The generators group covers the alternator end of a generator set: stator, rotor, exciter, bearings, coupling disc, terminal box and the voltage regulation hardware. It converts engine rotation into electrical output at a held voltage and frequency. Bearing wear and insulation degradation are the two long-term concerns — a bearing that starts to rumble will eventually seize and take the rotor with it, while moisture and heat slowly break down winding insulation. Parts in this group are replaced when vibration rises, when insulation resistance falls on a megger test, or when output voltage becomes unstable under load.
